Kenya has produced a plethora of musical talent over the years. Along the way, the country has also lost some talent. Some of those Kenyan artistes left an indelible mark on us.
Below are the Kenyan artistes who have died over the years.
The rapper died on Wednesday at St Francis Hospital. His manager and family representative Wanjiku Thuku said he had been having breathing complications shortly before he died.
2. Drygin and Frakaz
The duo behind popular hit song, “Man vs Arsenal”, met their death in 2008.
3. Mighty King Kong
The reggae artiste was disabled from the waist down at a young age due to polio and died on Christmas Day of 2007 at the age of 34.
The musician famed for his song Gyal, which he featured Slice, passed away after he was run over by a matatu after he missed his step.
The rapper died when he was at the cusp of becoming one of the biggest artistes to come out of Kenya. Born in 1979, K-Rupt was famed for songs such as “Tukawake” and “Chacha” before his death in 2003.
He was travelling in a matatu from Nanyuki to Nakuru where he was scheduled to perform. Carjackers attacked their matatu and when he tried to argue with the gangsters, they opened fire, killing him.
The gospel singer passed away in 2014 after the release of the hit song Mwanake which he featured alongside Benachi. That song was voted as the best Collabo of the Year at the 2015 Groove Awards.
The singer, well known for his 2011 hit “Kiburi ni cha nini?” died after getting electrocuted in a freak accident at his carwash.
