Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho recently did an interview with Citizen TV’s Lillian Muli. The governor spoke about his struggles growing up.

He said:

I was blessed. Somehow because I lived in Majengo, Kongowea, then moved to Kisauni, then stayed at Old Town. Even though at the beginning it seemed like quite a struggle, when I made an entry into politics I realised that it was some kind of a blessing.

He narrated to Lillian how tough life was:

I HAD QUITE SOME CHALLENGING TIME GROWING UP. IT WAS NOT AN EASY PERIOD OR TIME GROWING UP FOR ME. IN FACT, I SKIPPED ONE YEAR AFTER MY CLASS 8, I COULD NOT DIRECTLY TRANSITION TO FORM ONE SIMPLY BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD THE SCHOOL FEES.

He added:

I did what I did but when I had the opportunity to make it better, I did it. That is what matters to me. It is what you are able to do for the future.

Joho also explained that the frequent claims by others challenging his educational background were just politics. Joho has surely come a long way.
