Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has proposed stringent measures to curb betting in a move that has sparked mixed reactions. On Monday Matiang’i announced that come July 1st all betting agency licences in the country will be suspended pending proof of their tax remittance compliance. Matiang’i further said that Kenya had turned into a betting country but he is determined to reverse this phenomenon. Ms Muchemi said that betting and gambling especially as practiced by the Kenyan youth does not meet the definition of ‘work’ yet most gamblers consider it as work. ” WORK THAT IS NOT WORK I am addressing this from a background where I understand that work is one of the key mandates given to man by God. Work that is work must engage the human being in totality ; Mind body and soul. It must be work that is solving a human problem. It must be impacting more people than you ,eg creating employement.
