Gospel star Evelyn Wanjiru has opened up about how her undying need for a ‘perfect body’ left her paralyzed and hospitalized for a year.

According to her, the need to be slim to fit in with her peers saw her push herself to the limit.

“I tried to lose weight by exercising using a roller at only age 16, because I wanted to fit in. At one point, my legs become paralyzed.”

Everlyn added,

“I used to read the bible while in hospital but I still felt like my life had ended because I could not do anything for myself.”

In conclusion, Everlyn advises,

If you use the roller, the wrong way it can kill your nerves. That is what happened to me, all my back nerves died.

I had to undergo Physiotherapy because I was ill for a year. It was a miracle [that i recovered]. That is why I did my song ‘Waweza’.

Meanwhile, it is good to educate yourself on dangerous exercises that are harmful and injurious.

According to CNN, there are dangerous exercises that are likely to cause spine injury. These four are the ones to avoid.

Lat pull-downs (behind the head)

The lat pull-down places a lot of stress on the anterior joint capsule of the shoulder and can eventually lead to impingement or even rotator cuff tears,” says Jessica Malpelli, a Florida Orthopedic.

The kettlebell swing

If performed incorrectly, the repetitive swinging motion could result in rotator cuff injury and/or inflammation of other structures in the shoulder.

The Romanian deadlift

If performed correctly, it’s a great exercise for the back and hips. However, deadlifts are one of the easiest ways to hurt your back.

The overhead squat

Lifting anything overhead is challenging to your body, and even more so to the nervous system.
