Safaricom CEO was given a befitting send-off yesterday.
He was cremated at Kariakor in a very private event attended only by close friends and family.
Among the friend who attended the private ceremony was Bob Collymore Radio Africa’s Group’s founder and CEO Patrick Quarcoo and philanthropist Manu Chandaria attended the event.
In Quarcoo’s tribute to Collymore, he retold the last moments spent with him. It was two days before Collymore passed away.
“HE [Collymore] MADE US SMILE WHEN HE SAID, “I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THIS HEAVEN AND EARTH THING, BUT I TRULY HOPE THERE IS A LIFE AFTER DEATH.” WE ASKED WHY. WITH A TWINKLE IN HIS EYE, HE SAID, “IF THERE ARE GHOSTS, I WILL COME AND RUSTLE THE CURTAINS AND ON BIRTHDAYS WHEN YOU LIGHT THE CANDLES FOR MY CHILDREN, I WILL COME AND HELP BLOW THEM OUT.”

The media mogul went ahead to narrate how Collymore asked them to always stand by his wife Wambui after his death.
HE CALMLY TOLD US, “IF I GET THREE MORE DAYS, I WILL BE LUCKY.” WE ASKED WHAT WE MUST DO, SHOULD WE PART. “STAY TOGETHER, STAND BY WAMBUI,” HE SAID.
After the cremation, one of the VIP guests who is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin spoke to the media.
Retired Captain Kung’u Muigai said the day was sad and the country had lost a great Leader. He also revealed that said he was Collymore’s father-in-law.
“It will take our country a long time time to come to terms with what has happened. It is sad,” he said.
Collymore was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in October 2017 in the UK. His condition through worsened in June.
