Residents of a village in Naivasha are in mourning after a father of two committed suicide in unclear circumstances.

The body of the 42 year old farmer identified as Eric Wambugu was found yesterday morning by quarry workers soon after the incident in the sleepy Gatamaiyu village in the lake side town.

Incidentally the deceased left two notes with different messages to his family and a local clergy before he committed the act.

According to an elder James Kimani, the man jumped off a cliff and fell to his death soon after handing over the death notes to one of his friends.

Kimani said in one of the notes, the deceased wrote of how he wished his family well adding that he had not been coerced to commit suicide by anybody.

“The note was addressed to his wife and children and he also indicated that he wanted them to love one another indicating that he had not left a curse in the family,” he said.

The other note Kimani said was left for the local clergy that indicated that his wife should not be blamed for his acts.

“I leave you in the hands of God to love one another and my wife did not force me to commit suicide, I am only fed up with life”, the note said in part.

Kimani said cases of young men committing suicide in the area were on the increase and attributed the rise to influence to drugs and alcohol abuse.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha deputy county commissioner Isaac Masinde said his body had been picked and taken to the local mortuary.

“We were informed that he took away his own life and given the death notes he left but police have opened up investigations into the matter,” he said.
