Yesterday Starehe Boys Centre held a private memorial service for the late Ken Okoth of the class of 1995. The Kibra MP Okoth succumbed to colorectal cancer on July 26 at the Nairobi Hospital.

The service was attended by Okoth’s family, Peter Kenneth, Jubilee Party Secretary-General, Raphael Tuju, old Starehe Boys alumni among other government officials.

Many showered Ken with praises as a man who had a passion for education and his wife, Monica’s moving tribute left many touched.
People discouraged him not to get into politics because he had a comfortable life. But he still asked them, why not me?

There’s a tussle between his mother Angeline Ajwang and paternal side over his remains.
His paternal family wants Okoth to be buried in Kochia village in Homa Bay next to his father’s grave according to the Luo culture.
His mother has also denied that Ken ever sired a child.

Ken Okoth joined Starehe Boys Centre after passing KCPE, where he worked hard and passed with flying colours as well.
In an interview with Daily Nation back in 2013 he said the late Dr Griffin was his mentor.
