Women rarely talk about periods for fear of being stigmatized. Some go through a lot of during their menstrual periods and talking about it publicly is considered a taboo in most communities.
‘There’s nothing wrong having sex during your periods,’ Janet Mbugua says
Well, media personality and Lifebuoy brand ambassador Janet Mbugua talked about how she struggles during her periods.
Responding to a question from her fans about painful during periods and if it is normal, the mother of two said it was common among most women
Some experience the pain in form of cramps sometimes in the tummy, back and neck but the problem comes if it is excruciating pain, whereby you’ve tried to take mediation and it’s not going away. I had a lot of pain during my periods and I still do and if I don’t take pills. I still experience severe pain.
Janet, who is among the many Kenyans on the fight against endometriosis said,
I had ovarian cyst growing so I had laparoscopy many years ago. Because my pain was very severe, I felt that there was something wrong and was right about it.
‘If I don’t take my medication, I’ll struggle during my period,’ Janet Mbugua speaks
She advised that
If it’s mild pain and it will go away after taking painkillers but if it’s bad and consistent then there’s probably an issue around endometriosis, fibroids. This applies to if you bleed for more than a week when you’re on your periods.
I still feel a lot of pain and bleed like crazy.
The former Citizen TV presenter also revealed that home remedies for cramps work for her.
I try all home remedies because my periods are really bad. Hot water bottles work for me, eating right [a lot of vegetables and water], exercising.
Endometriosis warrior Njambi Koikai also experiences pains during her periods. She’s always using her social media to create endo awareness to many women out there.

Not so long ago, Grace Maslame was trolled after a photo of her dead asleep at a local restaurant surfaced.
She later explained that she has iron deficiency.
