Kenyans are mourning the loss of a national treasure. Veteran musician Laban Juma Toto is dead.

He was popularly known for his song ‘FC Gor Mahia’ which was used as the club’s anthem.

We have just received confirmation of the passing away of Laban Juma Toto chairman of KEMU we are awaiting further details from the immediate family before we release the official notice,” revealed Juma Odemba HSC who is the publicity secretary for Kenya Musicians Union.

Laban Juma Toto - Sing with the angels! Veteran musician falls and diesJuma Toto, 70, breathed his last on Tuesday, September 10, at the Kenyatta National Hospital where he was undergoing head surgery.

The late was a bandleader, composer and guitarist who performed at various entertainment joints.

He fell down while walking home after an evening out with his friends. He was rushed to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Joining Kenyans in mourning, former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, mourned the rhumba singer as a gifted and prolific musician.

“The death of legendary rhumba singer Juma Toto has robbed the country, Africa and the music industry of one of its most gifted and prolific musicians.”

Adding, Raila said, “Juma Toto’s track record leaves no doubt that he was a creative icon. Few artists are talented enough to live so long through their sounds and electrifying live performances.”

Juma’s music was distinct and he touched millions who will forever hold him dear. I join Juma’s fans from around the country and Africa in mourning his sudden death. May God grant peace and strength to his family at this moment of grief,” he wrote.
